The 38th Goya Awards have announced their nominations for the Best Ibero-American Film category. The esteemed ceremony is slated for February 10 in Valladolid, Spain. Among the nominees is ‘La Pecera’, a film by Puerto Rican director Glorimar Marrero Sánchez.
‘La Pecera’: A Tale of Terminal Illness and Environmental Decay
The film chronicles the journey of Noelia, a young woman diagnosed with terminal cancer who chooses to surrender her treatment and return to her native Vieques, Puerto Rico. Upon her return, she discovers that the island is also suffering from severe environmental pollution owing to its use as a practice field by the U.S. Navy. ‘La Pecera’ follows the footsteps of ‘Argentina, 1985’, the award-winning film from the previous year.

Alongside ‘La Pecera’, other nominated films include ‘La memoria infinita’ from Chile, ‘Puan’ from Argentina, ‘Simón’ from Venezuela, and ‘Alma viva’ from Portugal.
